Kanpur: Woman, Nephew Arrested for Killing Man Missing 49 Days
Kanpur: Woman, nephew arrested for murder after 49 days

In a significant breakthrough, Kanpur police have solved a 49-day-old missing person case by arresting a woman and her nephew for the alleged murder of a 35-year-old man from Rautapur village in the Chaubepur area. The victim's skeletal remains were later recovered from a forest based on information provided by the accused.

The Disappearance and Discovery

The 35-year-old man was last seen on the night of October 31. When he failed to return home, his concerned family filed a formal missing person complaint with the police on November 2. For over seven weeks, his whereabouts remained a mystery until a crucial lead emerged from the accused themselves.

Acting on the information revealed during interrogation, police teams recovered the victim's skeleton from a forest located in Shah Niwada village of Shivrajpur. A forensic team has now begun a detailed examination of the remains to gather further evidence.

Motive and a Grisly Confession

During questioning, the arrested woman confessed to the crime alongside her nephew. She revealed a shocking motive behind the brutal act. According to her statement to investigators, she had been in a relationship with the deceased for approximately four years.

The situation turned deadly when the victim allegedly tried to molest her 13-year-old daughter. The woman further claimed that when she resisted his advances, the man threatened to kill her son. Fearing for her children's safety, she allegedly decided to eliminate him.

The Night of the Murder

The accused woman meticulously planned the crime. On October 31, she lured the victim to her maternal home under the false pretext of arranging a marriage for him. There, she served him liquor. Once he was inebriated, she, together with her nephew, strangled him to death.

To dispose of the body, the duo dragged it and dumped it in the adjacent forest, where it remained hidden for weeks. Police officials tracked the victim's last known location through his mobile phone data, which eventually led them to arrest the woman on Friday. Her subsequent interrogation unraveled the entire sequence of events.

Police Statement and Investigation

Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Dinesh Tripathi confirmed the arrests and outlined the case. "The woman and her nephew have been arrested for killing the man for having ill intentions towards her daughter," DCP Tripathi stated. He confirmed that the victim had been missing since October 31 and that his skeleton had been recovered, prompting a forensic investigation.

The police are now delving deeper into the claims made by the accused to verify the exact circumstances that led to the murder. The case highlights a grim tale of a relationship gone wrong, culminating in a premeditated homicide that remained concealed for 49 days before the truth came to light.
