Vinay Kumar Yadav Triumphs in PGTI NexGen 2026 Playoff Against Teen Prodigy

In a gripping display of skill and composure, Vinay Kumar Yadav from Delhi captured his maiden professional golf title at the PGTI NexGen 2026 tournament. The thrilling conclusion unfolded at the Golden Greens Golf and Country Club in Gurugram, Haryana, where Yadav prevailed over 15-year-old rookie Arjunveer Shishir of Chandigarh in a tense playoff.

Regulation Play Sets Stage for Dramatic Finish

The Rs 25 lakh event saw both players finish the regulation 54 holes tied at the top of the leaderboard with a total score of three-under 213. Yadav, aged 30, carded rounds of 72, 70, and 71, while teenager Arjunveer posted scores of 71, 70, and 72. This deadlock set the scene for an intense playoff on the Par-5 18th hole.

Playoff Drama Unfolds with Key Moments

After both golfers made par on the first playoff hole, Yadav showcased his resilience on the second attempt. With precise hitting and confident putting, he secured a par, while Arjunveer struggled with bunker shots and rough conditions, resulting in a bogey. This victory earned Yadav a prize money cheque worth Rs 3,17,875 and propelled him to fourth place on the 2026 PGTI NexGen Order of Merit.

Yadav's Journey to Victory

Reflecting on his win, Yadav expressed immense joy and credited his coach, Nonita Lal Qureshi, for transforming his game since November last year. He highlighted significant improvements in his putting and thanked his father for unwavering support. Despite a shaky front-nine in the final round, which included bogeys and a double-bogey, Yadav maintained focus on the back-nine, capitalizing on Par-5 opportunities to force the playoff.

"I played with good focus and a cool mind, knowing I could make the Par-5s count," Yadav said. "This victory gives me a lot of confidence for the main tour."

Other Notable Performances

In the tournament's other highlights, Lakshya Nagar and overnight leader Siddharth Semwal finished tied for third place with a score of two-under 214. The event underscored the NexGen Tour's mission, launched by the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) last year, to provide equal playing opportunities and expand golf's reach to Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities in India.

Strategic Play and Course Advantage

Yadav attributed part of his success to the course layout at Golden Greens, which resembles his home course, the Delhi Golf Club. He noted that the narrow track favored his strategic approach, emphasizing ball placement over power. "I used the driver on only one hole," he revealed, showcasing his tactical acumen.

This landmark win not only marks a personal milestone for Vinay Kumar Yadav but also highlights the growing competitiveness and depth in Indian professional golf, driven by initiatives like the PGTI NexGen Tour.
