In a significant ruling, an Additional Sessions Judge in Kanpur Nagar has rejected the bail plea of a man accused of brutally murdering a 70-year-old paralytic woman during a robbery. Judge Azad Singh dismissed the application of Shahnawaz, also known as Gulgul, on Friday, strongly condemning the nature of the crime.
Court Condemns Heinous Crime
In his detailed order, Judge Azad Singh observed that Shahnawaz alias Gulgul and other accused committed a heinous crime by robbing and murdering a helpless woman. The court noted that the accused appeared to be a habitual criminal, with several cases already filed against him at various police stations. This history played a crucial role in the decision to deny him bail.
Details of the Gruesome Incident
According to Additional District Government Counsel (ADGC) Vinod Tripathi, the case stems from a First Information Report (FIR) lodged on July 9, 2025. The complainant, Sunil Krishna Mishra, a resident of Ram Bagh, stated that upon returning home from work, he found the main gate wide open. He then discovered his wife lying dead in a pool of blood on her bed on the first floor.
The investigation revealed that the ornaments she was wearing and approximately Rs 2.5 lakhs kept in an almirah were missing. Following a police probe, the evidence pointed towards Shahnawaz alias Gulgul as the perpetrator. A chargesheet was subsequently filed against him.
Prosecution's Strong Opposition to Bail
Opposing the bail application, ADGC Vinod Tripathi argued forcefully before the court. He emphasized that the accused had committed a particularly cruel act by killing a 70-year-old woman who was paralytic and defenseless. The prosecution stressed that the accused was arrested after a thorough investigation and formally charged with murder.
The judge's decision to dismiss the bail application underscores the judiciary's firm stance against violent crimes targeting vulnerable individuals. The case will now proceed to trial, where the evidence will be examined in detail.
