The landscape of India's electric two-wheeler market is entering a significant new chapter. After years of dominance with petrol-powered models, established Japanese manufacturers are finally making their electric move. Honda and Suzuki, household names for their reliable scooters, have now launched electric versions of their popular offerings, setting the stage for a head-to-head competition.

Battery and Range: Two Different Philosophies

The core difference between the Honda Activa e: and the Suzuki e-Access lies in their approach to battery technology and charging. Honda has opted for a swappable battery system with its Activa e:. This powers a 4.1 kW motor that delivers 15 Nm of torque and a top speed of 71 kmph. The certified range is 95 km. A key advantage of the e-Access is its charging flexibility. Using the included portable charger, a full charge at home takes approximately 6 hours and 42 minutes. However, it also supports DC fast charging, which can replenish the battery completely in just 2 hours and 12 minutes.

Features and Technology Showdown

When it comes to features, both scooters bring modern technology to the table. The Honda Activa e: boasts a large 7-inch TFT display with connectivity managed through the Honda RoadSync Duo smartphone app. This integration provides turn-by-turn navigation, call and music controls, live vehicle tracking, and maintenance alerts. The scooter also offers riders a choice of three modes: Econ, Standard, and Sport.

The Suzuki e-Access features a slightly smaller 4.3-inch TFT screen but doesn't skimp on functionality. It includes keyless ignition and three riding modes: Eco, Ride A, and Ride B. A practical addition is a reverse mode, aiding manoeuvrability in tight parking spots. Its smartphone connectivity enables navigation, traffic updates, and call/SMS alerts. Other notable features include a USB charging port, full LED lighting, and support for the aforementioned fast charging.

The competition takes a clear turn when we look at the price tags. The Honda Activa e: is positioned at a more accessible price point of Rs 1.20 lakh (ex-showroom) for its standard variant. On the other hand, the Suzuki e-Access commands a premium, starting at Rs 1.88 lakh (ex-showroom).
