In a dramatic incident fueled by jealousy and a demand for property, a 20-year-old woman in Nagpur allegedly masterminded a violent knife assault on her former husband's current wife and a neighbour. The attack, which unfolded in the Kurhadpeth area of Pachpaoli on Friday evening, was narrowly prevented from turning fatal by timely police intervention.
Revenge Plot Unfolds in Lashkaribagh
The prime accused, identified as Mukti alias Kuku alias Bulbul Bagde (20), reportedly stormed into the residence of the complainant, Ishika Nageshwar alias Nago Bihade (22), at around 7.40 pm on January 2. Mukti was not alone; she was accompanied by three accomplices: Yash alias Chhota Uddal Rajesh Bhave (20), Shubham alias Bada Uddal Vaibhav Rajesh Bhave (25), and a fourth unidentified individual.
The target was Ishika's husband, Nageshwar Bihade, at their home in Kunhadkar Peth near the Kolkata Railway Line. Driven by fury over Nageshwar ending their past relationship to marry Ishika, Mukti allegedly launched into a verbal tirade. She abused him, mocked his marriage, and demanded half of his property. The situation quickly escalated from threats to violence.
A Brutal Assault and Brave Intervention
Mukti then allegedly brandished a knife and attacked Nageshwar. While he managed to deflect a blow aimed at his chest, he sustained slashes on his left wrist, right finger, and forehead. Hearing the commotion, a local resident, Pawan Kailas Sonkusare (33), rushed to intervene.
However, the accused group turned on the Good Samaritan. Police reports state that Shubham restrained Pawan while Yash stabbed him in the chest. Pawan also suffered an elbow injury while resisting the attack. The fourth accomplice allegedly kicked Nageshwar in the stomach and threatened to kill him.
In a chilling escalation, the accused allegedly attempted to drag the victims towards a nearby railway track. It was at this critical moment that the Pachpaoli police, who had received an alert, arrived at the scene and rescued the two injured men.
Police Action and Serious Charges
Both Nageshwar Bihade and Pawan Sonkusare received immediate medical attention and were reported to be in stable condition. The police, under Senior Inspector Baburao Raut, registered a comprehensive case.
Given the organised nature of the crime and the accused's alleged history of intimidating the area, the police invoked serious charges. These include attempt to murder, assault, abetment, and relevant clauses of the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
In a swift follow-up, police arrested Mukti on Saturday. Her accomplices, Yash and Shubham, were nabbed later the same afternoon. Investigating Officer PSI Gajanan Maind sought a 5-day police remand from a local court, stressing the need to recover weapons and bloodstained clothing, obtain medical samples, trace the source of the weapon, and probe potential wider involvement in the crime.
