Gurgaon ADC Mandates Enhanced Road Safety and Infrastructure Near Educational Institutions

In a decisive move to bolster student safety, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Sonu Bhatt has issued strict directives for the regular maintenance of roads adjacent to schools across Gurgaon. The instructions were delivered during a comprehensive district-level committee meeting convened on Wednesday, targeting all departments responsible for road upkeep.

Comprehensive Review of Safe School Vehicle Policy and Infrastructure Concerns

ADC Bhatt conducted a thorough review of the Safe School Vehicle Policy, instructing all Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) to perform regular inspections of school buses within their jurisdictions. Furthermore, police teams have been directed to ensure strict compliance with established road safety rules, emphasizing a zero-tolerance approach towards violations.

The meeting addressed a wide array of critical infrastructure issues impacting public safety. Key discussion points included the prevalence of illegal road cuts, hazardous placement of electricity poles on main thoroughfares, and inadequate street lighting. Specific black spots near Panchgaon Chowk and the Rapid Metro corridor were highlighted as areas requiring immediate intervention to prevent accidents.

Additional infrastructure improvements discussed encompassed:
  • Widening of the road at Bristol Chowk to enhance traffic flow and safety standards
  • Removal of encroachments at the critical sectors 4-7-9 junction to improve accessibility
  • Installation of high-mast lights at major junctions along National Highway 8 to improve nighttime visibility
  • Addressing the persistent issue of overloaded vehicles compromising road integrity

Providing prompt medical assistance to victims during road accidents was also a significant agenda item, underscoring the holistic approach to traffic safety management.

Formation of Joint Inspection Teams and Implementation of Technological Solutions

To address specific trouble spots, ADC Bhatt directed the formation of a joint inspection team comprising representatives from the police, Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), DLF, and the Raahgiri Foundation. This team has been tasked with conducting a detailed inspection of Bristol Chowk and submitting a comprehensive report with actionable recommendations.

In a push towards modernizing traffic management, the ADC instructed the district transport officer and secretary of the regional transport authority to organize a specialized training camp in collaboration with the IIT Madras team. This initiative aims to enhance understanding of the Traffic Management System (TMS) and the e-DAR (Digital Accident Report) applications, leveraging technology for more efficient oversight.

Enforcement Measures and Inter-Departmental Coordination

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Rajesh Mohan contributed valuable suggestions on accident prevention and traffic management strategies. He emphasized that any issues related to illegal road cuts presented during meetings should be formally routed through the area traffic in-charge to ensure systematic resolution.

For incidents affecting street light maintenance, such as cable theft, Mohan stipulated that the concerned agency must first register an official report at the nearest police station before proceeding with repairs, ensuring proper documentation and accountability.

Responding to infrastructure delays, ADC Bhatt directed DHBVN (Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam) officials to expedite the release of the electricity connection for the high-mast light at Panchgaon Chowk, addressing a long-standing public safety concern.

Significant Progress in Curbing Vehicle Overloading

Assistant Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Harendra Veer reported substantial enforcement progress since the previous meeting. Authorities have challaned 116 overloaded vehicles up to March 24, generating significant revenue of approximately Rs 82 lakh. This crackdown demonstrates the district's commitment to enforcing load regulations to preserve road infrastructure and enhance safety.
