Decomposed Bodies of Man and Two Children Found in Jharkhand Well
In a tragic incident, police in Dumka, Jharkhand, recovered the decomposed bodies of a 40-year-old man and his two minor children from a desolate well on Saturday. The discovery was made just a few hundred metres from an ashram in Jamtara district, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Discovery and Identification
Local shepherds alerted the authorities after spotting the bodies floating in the well. Upon recovery, police found an Aadhaar card that helped identify the man as Laxman Murmu, a resident of Murgathal village in West Bengal’s Birbhum district. The children were identified as an 8-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl, whose names have not been disclosed pending further investigation.
Police Investigation and Foul Play Suspected
Sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) of Jamtara, Manoj Kumar Yadav, who rushed to the spot after receiving information, stated that the bodies were in an advanced stage of decomposition. "The bodies were in an advanced stage of decomposition, suggesting they were in the well for about three to four days," Yadav told reporters.
Police have indicated that the circumstances surrounding the recovery point to possible foul play. "The way the bodies were recovered suggests foul play, and the case is being probed from a murder angle," officials said. However, they are also exploring other possibilities. "We are also probing if it is a case of suicide or not," added SDPO Yadav, emphasizing that the investigation is ongoing and thorough.
Coordination with Bengal Police
In light of the victim's origins, authorities have alerted the West Bengal police about the recovery. This cross-state coordination aims to gather more details about Laxman Murmu’s background and any potential motives behind the incident. The police are working to piece together the events leading up to the tragedy, including any family disputes or external threats.
