Chandigarh Police Book Two in Rs 4 Lakh Job Fraud Case
The UT Police in Chandigarh have registered a case against two individuals for allegedly cheating a woman out of a substantial sum of Rs 4 lakh. The accused, identified as Vinod and Rajeev, who are employees of the Municipal Corporation (MC), are charged with defrauding the complainant, Anu, under the false pretence of securing a job for her.
The Neighbour's Introduction and False Promises
According to the police complaint, the incident traces back to 2021. Anu was introduced to the accused persons through a neighbour. This neighbour reportedly gave her assurances that if she paid the demanded amount of Rs 4 lakh, Vinod and Rajeev could arrange a government job for her without delay.
Trusting her neighbour's word, Anu agreed to the arrangement. The plot thickened on October 28, 2021, when she received a direct call from one of the accused, Rajeev. He instructed her to deposit an initial sum of Rs 60,000 into the bank account of the other accused, Vinod. This payment, he claimed, was necessary to finalise her appointment and ensure she could join her new position the very next day.
Money Taken, Job Never Materialised
Following the instructions, Anu transferred the money. However, the promised job failed to materialise. After the initial payment, the accused neither provided the employment they had guaranteed nor did they return the funds. Despite appeals, the duo withheld the money, leading Anu to believe she had been deliberately swindled.
After exhausting all other options to recover her money, the victim finally approached the authorities. Based on her formal complaint, the UT Police have now booked the two MC employees under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to cheating and breach of trust.
This case highlights the risks associated with fake job scams that often prey on the desperation of job seekers. Police have advised the public to exercise extreme caution and verify all offers through official channels before parting with any money.
