Lucknow Anticipates Weather Relief with Incoming Rain and Thunderstorms
The state capital of Lucknow is likely to experience some much-needed relief over the next two days, as meteorologists predict a fresh spell of rain accompanied by thundershowers and lightning, starting from Monday evening. This weather event is expected to bring a temporary respite from the recent heat, with temperatures potentially dropping by a few degrees.
Weather Systems Driving the Change
According to the weather department, a fresh western disturbance over Iran and a cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan are the primary factors influencing this forecast. These systems are likely to bring light rain to Lucknow on both Monday and Tuesday. Senior scientist Mohammad Danish explained, "A fresh western disturbance over Iran and a cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan are likely to bring light rain on Monday and Tuesday. Light rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, is likely to begin from Monday evening, with a few spells expected on Tuesday as well. This may lead to a drop in day temperatures by a few degrees."
Recent Weather Patterns and Context
Danish noted that Lucknow has already witnessed some rain activity this month. The city experienced a dust storm and drizzle on March 16, followed by a second round of rain on Friday. The upcoming spell on Monday and Tuesday marks the third such event in March. He attributed the increased frequency of rain and thunderstorm activity this month to an early onset of summer, with the second half of February recording temperatures similar to those typically seen in May and June.
On Sunday, Lucknow recorded a maximum temperature of 35.7°C and a minimum of 20°C, highlighting the warm conditions that the incoming rain aims to alleviate.
Broader Impact Across Uttar Pradesh
The weather influence extends beyond Lucknow to other parts of Uttar Pradesh. According to forecasts:
- Rain or thundershowers are very likely at isolated places over east Uttar Pradesh and at a few places over west Uttar Pradesh.
- In east Uttar Pradesh, there is a possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 30–40 kmph at isolated locations.
- In west Uttar Pradesh, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are very likely at isolated places, with speeds reaching 40–50 kmph and gusts up to 60 kmph.
This widespread activity underscores the significant weather shift affecting the region, potentially bringing relief and cooler conditions to many areas.
