Karnataka Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao Clarifies Congress Discipline Unrelated to Byelection
In a significant statement from Mangaluru, Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao on Saturday categorically clarified that disciplinary actions within the Congress party have no connection whatsoever with the upcoming Davanagere South assembly bypoll. Speaking to reporters, Rao firmly dismissed widespread speculation that internal party decisions are being influenced by electoral considerations ahead of the crucial byelection.
No Electoral Link to Disciplinary Measures
"No one can predict election results. I am not an astrologer to say who will win. Disciplinary actions are purely related to anti-party activities and not the byelection," Rao asserted emphatically. He explained that the party's disciplinary framework operates independently of electoral cycles, focusing solely on maintaining organizational integrity and addressing violations of party protocols.
Denial of Cabinet Reshuffle Rumours
Addressing circulating rumours about the potential removal of Housing Minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan from the cabinet, Rao termed such speculation as entirely baseless and unfounded. "Zameer Ahmed Khan is a senior leader working loyally for the party. Such matters are discussed within the party framework. Few people may be spreading unnecessary rumours," he stated, reaffirming Khan's standing within the party hierarchy.
Response to Allegations of Targeting
When questioned about Congress leader Rajanna's allegation that supporters of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah were being specifically targeted in disciplinary actions, Rao responded that he was not aware of any such claims. "Rajanna should be asked about his statement. There is no question of targeting anyone in the Congress. Party discipline applies to all, and action is taken only if there is a mistake," he clarified, emphasizing the universal application of party rules across all factions and communities.
Rao further stressed that the Congress remains a united entity, transcending community lines, and that disciplinary measures are implemented transparently and impartially to uphold organizational cohesion.
Update on Local Body Elections
Shifting focus to administrative matters, Rao provided an update on the impending local body elections, confirming that the electoral process has already commenced. "As per the high court's direction, zilla panchayat elections must be conducted before June, for which preparations are under way," he disclosed, indicating that the state government is actively working to comply with judicial directives and ensure timely elections.
The minister's comprehensive remarks aim to dispel misconceptions and reinforce the Congress party's commitment to internal discipline and electoral preparedness, independent of external political pressures.
