Haryana Chief Minister Greenlights Major Investment in Wheat Storage Infrastructure
In a significant move to bolster agricultural support, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has sanctioned the purchase of jute and other storage bags valued at Rs 550 crore. This decision, aimed at ensuring the secure storage of wheat during the forthcoming procurement season, was finalized during a meeting of the High Powered Purchase Committee (HPPC) on Thursday.
Strategic Savings and Enhanced Capacity
Through meticulous negotiations, the state government managed to achieve substantial savings of Rs 80 crore on this procurement initiative. A government spokesperson emphasized that this strategic investment will significantly enhance Haryana's grain storage capacity, facilitating smooth and secure storage for wheat procured from farmers. The procurement aligns with the operational requirements of key agencies, including the Food and Supplies Department, Hafed, and the Haryana State Warehousing Corporation.
Commitment to Transparency and Farmer Welfare
During the HPPC meeting, Chief Minister Saini issued directives to officials, stressing the importance of maintaining a transparent, time-bound procurement process that adheres to stringent quality standards. This approach is designed to ensure optimal utilization of government resources and prevent any inefficiencies. Reiterating the administration's unwavering commitment to farmer welfare, Saini highlighted that safeguarding agricultural produce through secure storage remains a top priority. He further instructed officers to accelerate preparations for the rabi procurement season to avoid disruptions during crop arrivals in mandis.

Attendees included Urban Local Bodies Minister Vipul Goel, Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana, and Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Arun Gupta, along with other senior officers.
