CSMC Achieves Record Rs 221 Crore Tax Collection Before FY End

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation Sets New Tax Collection Benchmark

The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) has achieved a historic milestone in tax collection, amassing a record Rs 221 crore as the current financial year draws to a close. This impressive figure represents an unprecedented high for the civic body, with property tax alone contributing a substantial Rs 200 crore to the total recovery.

Substantial Growth in Revenue Collection

According to officials from the civic tax collection department, this year's collection marks a remarkable 45% increase compared to the previous financial year. The department further revealed that approximately 35% of citizens have paid higher tax amounts this year, contributing to the overall surge in revenue.

In the 2024-25 financial year, the civic body had collected Rs 157.7 crore in property tax. "The total recovery for the current financial year is expected to rise marginally further, as a few days remain before the March 31 deadline," an official stated, indicating that the final figure might be even higher.

Digital Initiatives Drive Compliance

Several innovative initiatives have played a crucial role in boosting tax collections. The municipal administration implemented multiple digital platforms including:

  • A dedicated WhatsApp chatbot for taxpayer assistance
  • Comprehensive online tax payment facilities
  • The 'Shrimitra' cell and corresponding mobile application

These technological solutions have enabled the administration to reach a wider base of taxpayers and streamline the payment process. "Sustained outreach efforts had a positive impact on recovery figures. We appeal to the remaining taxpayers to clear their dues before the end of the financial year," another official emphasized.

Strategic Leadership and Enforcement Measures

Deputy Commissioner Vikas Nawale attributed the record-breaking performance to meticulous planning and effective execution by the civic administration under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner G Sreekanth. "The record tax recovery will provide a significant boost to upcoming development projects. It will also prove crucial for the holistic development of the city," Nawale stated.

To further improve compliance, the civic body has taken strict action against major defaulters by sealing properties for non-payment of property tax. Civic officials confirmed that this enforcement measure acted as a deterrent and provided an additional boost to tax recovery efforts.

Comprehensive Tax Breakdown

The total recovery of Rs 221 crore includes Rs 21 crore collected in water tax, demonstrating broad-based revenue generation across different municipal services. This diversified tax collection approach has strengthened the corporation's financial position significantly.

The substantial increase in tax collection comes at a critical time for urban development planning, providing the municipal corporation with enhanced resources to address infrastructure needs and public service improvements throughout Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
