Chalavadi Community Leader Demands Revival of Internal Reservation, Warns of Statewide Agitation

In a significant development from Belagavi, Basava Nagideva Swami of the Chitradurga Chalavadi Sansthan Mutt has issued a stern demand for the revival of internal reservation for the Chalavadi community. The spiritual leader has explicitly warned that a statewide agitation will be launched if fair reservation in education and employment is not ensured for the community.

Rejection of Justice Nagamohan Das Commission Report

Addressing the media in Belagavi on Saturday, Swami declared that the community has formally rejected the Justice Nagamohan Das Commission report. He urged the government to honor the assurances that were given during a recent mass protest held in Bengaluru. Swami emphasized that Justice H.N. Nagamohan Das failed to provide justice to the Chalavadi community, leaving their grievances unaddressed.

The community is closely observing the government's stance on the commission's report, Swami stated, noting that political leaders have not yet raised their voices effectively on this critical issue. He expressed deep concern over the perceived negligence by the government regarding internal reservation policies.

Allegations of Government Negligence and Lack of Representation

Swami alleged widespread government negligence on the matter of internal reservation. He pointed out that, with the exception of Minister G. Parameshwar, no other leader has argued convincingly in the legislative assembly on behalf of the Chalavadi community. Only those who truly understand the condition of the community will grasp the paramount importance of internal reservation, he asserted.

The spiritual leader warned that a statewide agitation may once again become necessary if the government continues to ignore their demands. He highlighted that the commission's report has overlooked several castes, including the Chalavadi community, leading to significant injustice.

Demands for Rectification and Community Engagement

To address these shortcomings, Swami demanded that the government either establish a new commission or set up a floor committee to rectify the issues identified. He stressed that several communities have been meted out injustice through the current report, and immediate corrective measures are required.

Furthermore, Swami called for the government to convene a meeting of leaders from the Chalavadi community to discuss their concerns and find a viable solution. The presence of community figures such as Tumbal Ramanna, Bangavadi Narayanappa, Dayanand Karjol, Vijaylaxmi, and Durgesh at the media briefing underscored the collective support for these demands.

The Chalavadi community's stance signals growing unrest over reservation policies in Karnataka, with potential implications for social harmony and political dynamics in the state.
