Political Figures Engage with Devotees During Dhubri's Austami Snan Festival

As the election season intensifies and festive celebrations unfold, political candidates in Dhubri, Assam, actively participated in serving devotees during the Austami Snan ritual in the Brahmaputra River on Tuesday. This annual event, which marks a significant religious occasion, saw lakhs of devotees from western Assam and North Bengal converging in Dhubri, with many arriving on Monday night and taking shelter in dharmasalas, temples, and clubs where food and amenities were arranged.

Candidates from Multiple Parties Serve Refreshments

Candidates representing various political parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress, were observed distributing light refreshments, water, and juice to the devotees. BJP candidate Uttam Prasad, contesting from the Dhubri assembly constituency, continued his long-standing tradition by serving from a dedicated counter. Similarly, Congress candidate Baby Begum from Dhubri and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) candidate Jibesh Roy from Bilasipara visited the ghats at Chapor to greet and interact with the devotees.

In a statement to the media, BJP candidate Uttam Prasad emphasized, "I am not here just because the poll is round the corner. I have been doing this for many years. Taking care of devotees coming from central Assam districts and North Bengal is our utmost duty." This highlights a blend of electoral campaigning and community service, as candidates leverage the festive atmosphere to connect with voters.

Austami Snan Brings Festivity and Economic Activity

The Austami Snan ritual not only brings joy and spiritual fervor to the region but also kickstarts a 15-day fair at the mela ground, which was inaugurated on Monday evening. This fair, known as the Ashoka Austami Mela, is a key cultural and economic event, drawing crowds and boosting local commerce. When questioned about the arrangements for the fair, Dhubri Mela Committee secretary Ganesh Sen confirmed that preparations, security measures, and timings have remained consistent with previous years, ensuring a smooth and safe experience for all attendees.

The convergence of political activity and religious celebration underscores the strategic timing of the festival amidst the election cycle, with candidates aiming to showcase their commitment to community welfare. As devotees partake in the sacred snan and enjoy the fair, the political landscape in Dhubri remains vibrant, with parties vying for support through such public engagements.
