Bihar Government Establishes Dedicated Call Centre and Mobile App for Migrant Worker Support

In a significant move to bolster support for labourers, the Labour Resources and Migrant Workers Welfare Department of Bihar has announced the creation of a dedicated call centre. This initiative aims to provide a robust platform for workers to register their grievances and seek assistance, whether they are employed within the state or outside it, including in foreign countries.

Comprehensive Support System for Workers

Department Secretary Deepak Anand confirmed that the tender for establishing the call centre has already been floated. The centre will be strategically located at Niyojan Bhawan near the Income Tax roundabout in Patna, ensuring easy accessibility. Anand emphasized that this facility will enable people from Bihar working externally to provide valuable feedback, thereby enhancing the department's responsiveness to their needs.

Sources within the department revealed that the bidding process is underway and is expected to be completed within 45 days. This timeline underscores the government's commitment to swift implementation of welfare measures for migrant workers, who often face challenges in remote employment scenarios.

Mobile Application for Data Collection and Security

In addition to the call centre, the department is preparing to launch a mobile application named Bihar Pravasi Kamgar app. Originally introduced last year, this app is currently undergoing a rigorous security audit to ensure data protection and privacy compliance. It is anticipated to be made public within a month, following the audit's completion.

The app has already garnered nearly seven lakh registrations from migrant workers, with expectations for this number to increase significantly. A key feature of the application is its integration with Aadhaar, having received approval from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). This linkage will facilitate secure and efficient data collection, helping the department maintain accurate records of Bihar natives working outside the state while safeguarding their personal information.

This dual approach—combining a call centre for immediate grievance redressal and a mobile app for systematic data management—reflects a holistic strategy to address the needs of migrant workers. By leveraging technology, the Bihar government aims to streamline support services and ensure that labourers have reliable channels to voice concerns and access assistance.
