Agra RTO Intensifies School Bus Safety Crackdown After Tragic Accident

The Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Agra has launched a comprehensive enforcement drive targeting school buses, resulting in the seizure of eight vehicles on Saturday. This decisive action comes just days after a heartbreaking incident where a nine-year-old girl lost her life after falling from a school bus.

Immediate Enforcement Response to Tragedy

Regional Transport Officer AK Dwivedi confirmed the enforcement operation, stating, "The buses were operating without valid permits and fitness certificates. Eight school buses were seized during checks across Agra. Our teams are also inspecting buses at schools and the drive will continue." The crackdown represents a significant escalation in safety monitoring following the recent tragedy.

Tragic Incident Details and Investigation

The enforcement drive was prompted by Wednesday's devastating incident involving Naina, a Class 1 student at RBS School Bhagupur. While returning home on Naya Bans Bihari Pur Road in the Etmadpur area, the young girl fell from the school bus and was tragically run over by its wheel. She succumbed to her injuries during treatment.

Police investigations revealed the bus was in dangerously poor condition. ACP Etmadpur Devesh Singh explained, "The vehicle had a broken floor, which likely caused the child to fall when the bus jolted." Authorities registered a First Information Report under BNS sections 106(1) for causing death by negligence and section 105 for punishment of culpable homicide.

Arrests and Administrative Consequences

The accused bus driver, Narendra Singh, who had been absconding following the incident, was apprehended by authorities in Firozabad on Friday. The tragedy also triggered significant administrative repercussions, with Transport Commissioner Kinjal Singh suspending four officials on Friday over alleged negligence in their duties.

The suspended officials include:

  • Neelam
  • Amit Verma
  • Sharda Mishra
  • Shiv Kumar Mishra

Broader Safety Concerns and Ongoing Monitoring

This recent tragedy occurred just two weeks after another similar incident in Uttar Pradesh's Kasganj district, raising serious concerns about school transport safety across the state. The consecutive incidents have prompted renewed scrutiny and intensified monitoring of school transportation systems.

Authorities have emphasized that inspections will continue systematically to ensure all school buses comply with mandatory transport and safety regulations. The enforcement drive represents a broader commitment to preventing similar tragedies through rigorous compliance checks and immediate action against violators.

The Agra RTO's proactive measures highlight growing concerns about school transportation safety standards and the urgent need for comprehensive monitoring systems. As the enforcement drive continues, officials stress that student safety remains their paramount concern, with zero tolerance for violations that could endanger young lives.
