Dibrugarh's Cleanliness Revolution Gains Momentum
The city of Dibrugarh is witnessing a remarkable transformation in urban cleanliness as the Swachh Gali initiative, led by the Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation in partnership with NGO Team Shrishti, continues to achieve significant milestones across multiple city wards.
Art Meets Activism in Atecol Gali
This Tuesday marked a creative breakthrough for the movement when Team Shrishti, together with Dibrugarh University interns and local residents, converted plain walls in Atecol Gali into vibrant Information, Education, and Communication murals. The artwork, centered on themes of cleanliness and civic responsibility, became even more special when local children added their colorful handprints and thumbprints to the designs.
The cheerful participation of children symbolized collective ownership and strengthened community bonds, turning the cleanliness drive into a truly inclusive movement that engages all age groups.
Remarkable Achievements in Waste Management
The campaign has achieved what many considered impossible - 100% waste collection and segregation in multiple areas, establishing a sustainable model for community-driven cleanliness that other cities can emulate. The movement's growing influence is particularly evident in wards 15, 21, and 8, covering prominent areas including GS Modi Road Gali, Boloram Dowerah Path, and Dalbir Singh Lohar Path.
Residents in these neighborhoods have taken matters into their own hands, coming together to clean their lanes, install waste bins, and maintain their surroundings regularly. This represents a significant shift in mindset, with communities taking charge of cleanliness instead of waiting for municipal intervention.
Grassroots Participation Drives Change
In Boloram Dowerah Path, door-to-door collection teams distributed household dustbins to ensure better waste segregation at the source. The newly introduced weekend cleaning practice has successfully motivated citizens to turn cleanliness into a habit rather than an occasional activity.
"When we clean together, the whole neighbourhood feels different. It's amazing to see how a clean gali lifts everyone's spirits," shared resident Rita Dowerah, capturing the community's enthusiasm.
Dibrugarh mayor Saikat Patra emphasized the movement's deeper purpose: "The Swachh Gali movement is about inspiring a mindset of ownership and pride in our surroundings. Through small, consistent efforts, we are witnessing lasting transformation — one gali at a time."
The initiative demonstrates how collaborative efforts between municipal authorities, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, and local communities can create sustainable urban development solutions that benefit everyone.
