In a significant operation, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) arrested a man with over 327 kilograms of narcotics near the Indo-Nepal border in Uttar Pradesh's Maharajganj district. The accused, identified as Ranjeet Giri, a resident of Bihar's Gopalpur area, was taken into custody on Sunday morning.
Details of the Seizure
Acting on a specific tip-off, a team of SSB personnel intercepted Giri and recovered a large quantity of marijuana from his possession. SSB Assistant Commandant Dinesh Chandra Biswas confirmed the arrest and said that the contraband weighed more than 327 kilograms. The operation highlights the ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking along the international border.
Legal Proceedings
The accused has been booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is underway to trace the origin of the drugs and possible links to larger smuggling networks. Giri is currently in custody and will be produced before a local court.
This seizure is one of the largest in the region this year, underscoring the persistent challenge of drug smuggling from neighboring countries. Authorities have intensified surveillance and patrolling in border areas to prevent such illegal activities.
