Cantonment police have officially registered a case and initiated a thorough search for the suspects, who were captured on CCTV footage from the vicinity.

Details of the Theft Incident

The complainant has been identified as Dr K Kavitha, aged 32, a resident of Villupuram district who serves as a doctor at a government hospital. According to police reports, Dr Kavitha had travelled to Trichy Airport on Sunday with her family to see off a relative departing abroad. While returning to Villupuram, the family made a stop to have dinner at a nearby hotel, parking their car on a service road near TVS Tollgate around 8 pm.

Upon returning to the vehicle after their meal, Dr Kavitha discovered that her handbag was missing from inside the car. The bag reportedly contained not only the Rs 60,000 in cash but also the car keys, adding to the inconvenience and security concerns. The incident has raised alarms about safety in public parking areas, especially during evening hours.

Authorities have registered a case under Section 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to theft and related offenses, underscoring the seriousness of the crime.

Police officials have emphasized that a dedicated search is underway to trace and apprehend the suspects. The use of advanced surveillance technology is expected to play a key role in identifying the culprits, with investigators combing through additional footage and gathering witness statements to build a strong case.

  • Always locking vehicles and removing valuables from plain sight.
  • Parking in well-lit, monitored areas whenever possible.
  • Reporting any suspicious activity to authorities immediately.

The theft has sparked discussions on the need for enhanced police patrolling and surveillance in high-traffic zones to deter such crimes.
