Tirupati Police Crack Down on Ganja Smuggling Ring
In a significant operation, Tirupati rural police have successfully arrested a ganja smuggler and confiscated a substantial quantity of contraband, marking a crucial step in combating drug trafficking in the region. The arrest took place on Saturday, with authorities seizing 1.8 kg of ganja from the possession of the accused.
Details of the Arrest and Investigation
According to Tirupati rural Circle Inspector K Maddaiahchari, the individual apprehended by the police has been identified as Sai Prasad. The investigation uncovered that Sai Prasad, in collaboration with his accomplice Gowri Shankar, was involved in sourcing large quantities of ganja from Behrampur and other areas in Odisha. They meticulously packaged the drugs into 10-gram packets and sold them to students addicted to ganja in and around Tirupati, charging ₹500 per packet.
After maintaining close surveillance on their illicit activities, Tirupati rural police moved in to arrest Sai Prasad near the Avilala junction on the outskirts of the city. The accused was subsequently produced before a local magistrate and remanded to judicial custody for a period of 14 days.
Ongoing Efforts and Police Appeal
CI Maddaiahchari informed reporters that efforts are actively underway to apprehend Gowri Shankar, who is currently absconding. The police have issued a strong appeal to the youth, urging them not to succumb to ganja addiction. They have encouraged individuals to seek counselling and police support if necessary, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in eradicating drug abuse.
This crackdown highlights the relentless efforts of Tirupati police to disrupt drug supply chains and protect vulnerable populations, particularly students, from the dangers of substance abuse.
