Tragic House Collapse in Punjab Village Claims Three Lives
A devastating incident unfolded in the early hours of Sunday at Pharwahi village in Barnala district, Punjab, resulting in the deaths of three labourers. The tragedy occurred when a double-storey house, which was being lifted using hydraulic jacks, suddenly caved in.

The house, owned by Vishal Kumar, had become level with the street due to successive road carpeting work. To address this, Kumar had hired a contractor nearly a week ago to lift the structure. The contractor engaged four labourers for the job, who had been working late into the evenings and sleeping on-site. Fortunately, one labourer decided to return home late Saturday, leaving three others behind.
Villagers reported hearing a loud noise around 4:30 AM. Upon investigation, they discovered the house had collapsed. An urgent announcement was made through the village Gurdwara's speaker system, mobilizing residents for rescue operations. The villagers managed to pull out the three trapped labourers and rushed them to Barnala Civil Hospital, where they were declared dead upon arrival.

Barnala DSP Satbir Singh stated that police teams and the Tehsildar are actively assessing the situation to determine the exact reasons behind the collapse. Preliminary investigations suggest that sewage water had been flowing into the foundation, and a spell of rain on Sunday morning may have contributed to the structural failure.
