Pilibhit Court Intervenes to Register FIR in Alleged Gangrape Case
In a significant development in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, an FIR has been officially registered against two men, aged 42 and 45, following a court order. The accused are alleged to have gangraped a 40-year-old family friend on January 15, after luring her under the pretext of providing a lift.
Details of the Alleged Incident
The incident reportedly occurred around 1:30 PM on January 15. The woman was waiting for a passenger vehicle to Pilibhit city at her village when one of the accused, a family friend from a nearby village, offered her a lift on his motorcycle. As they reached Jangrauli village along the Bhind-Lipulekh National Highway 731, another family friend joined them.
The survivor alleged that she was forced to inhale an intoxicant, which caused her to lose consciousness. She was then taken to a nearby sugarcane field and raped by both men. When she resisted, the accused attempted to strangle her with a scarf and threatened to kill her and her husband if she reported the crime to the police before fleeing the scene.
Police Inaction and Court Intervention
Following the traumatic event, the woman attempted to lodge an FIR at the Sungarhi police station but was met with refusal and no action from the authorities. In a desperate move, she sent a written complaint to the Superintendent of Police via registered post, which also went unanswered.
This lack of response prompted her to approach the court for justice. The court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Pilibhit issued an order on Saturday night, directing the police to take legal action, which led to the registration of the FIR.
Legal Charges and Police Response
SHO Naresh Kumar Tyagi confirmed that a case has been registered against the accused under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The charges include:
- Section 70(1) for gangrape
- Section 351(3) for criminal intimidation
- Section 123 for causing hurt by means of poison with intent to commit another offense
The police are now investigating the matter further as per the court's directives, marking a critical step in addressing the alleged crime and the initial inaction by law enforcement.
