Kolkata Bus Cleaner Crushed to Death in Salt Lake Hydraulic Malfunction

A tragic incident at the Karunamayee bus terminus in Salt Lake, Kolkata, claimed the life of a private bus cleaner on Thursday. The victim, identified as Ramzan Ali Javed from Madhyamgram's Badu area, was fatally crushed under a Siliguri-bound private Volvo bus during what appears to have been a technical malfunction.

Details of the Fatal Incident

According to preliminary reports from the Bidhannagar City Police, Javed was inspecting the tires of the bus from underneath its rear section when the hydraulic mechanism suddenly lowered, trapping him and causing severe head injuries. The bus was being prepared for departure at the time of the accident.

Witnesses at the scene described a sudden collapse of the bus's rear end, which led to Javed being pinned beneath the vehicle. Local residents quickly alerted authorities, and police arranged for his immediate evacuation to the Bidhannagar Sub-Divisional Hospital. Unfortunately, doctors at the hospital declared him dead upon arrival.

Police Investigation and Technical Aspects

A senior officer from the Bidhannagar City Police stated, "The bus was equipped with hydraulic technology, which may have malfunctioned during the inspection of the wheels. While initial indications point towards a technical fault, we have started a detailed probe to determine the exact sequence of events and whether any negligence was involved."

The police have launched a comprehensive investigation to ascertain the cause of the hydraulic failure. As of now, no formal police complaint has been lodged by Javed's family members, according to authorities.

Separate Road Accident in New Town

In an unrelated incident earlier this week, a 22-year-old biker, Shahbaz Molla, succumbed to injuries sustained in a road accident in New Town. The accident occurred on March 22 when an auto allegedly hit Molla's parked bike near Eco Urban Village and fled the scene.

Molla, who was standing beside his vehicle at the time, suffered multiple fractures in his right leg and other serious bodily injuries. He was found unconscious and later died at a private hospital under Baguiati Police Station limits on Tuesday night. His family has lodged a formal complaint at the Eco Park Police Station.

These incidents highlight ongoing safety concerns in the region, with authorities urging increased vigilance and proper maintenance of vehicles to prevent such tragedies.
