Two Inmates Escape from Hi-Tech Rewari Jail Using Construction Ladder
In a significant security breach, two inmates managed to escape from the high-security jail in Rewari on March 27, officials confirmed. The escape was discovered during the routine evening headcount, prompting immediate police action and the filing of an official complaint. However, in a swift turn of events, both fugitives were successfully recaptured by authorities within 24 hours of their daring breakout.
Identities and Charges of the Escaped Inmates
The escaped prisoners have been identified as Faizan, aged 22 and hailing from Rampur, and Zahid, aged 21 and originally from Etawah. Both individuals were currently facing trial in multiple cyber fraud cases, highlighting the serious nature of their alleged crimes. Their escape from custody raised immediate concerns about the security protocols at the facility, which is designed to be a modern, hi-tech prison.
Method of Escape and Immediate Investigation
Preliminary investigations conducted by prison authorities revealed that the inmates utilized a construction ladder to scale the perimeter wall of the jail. This method of escape pointed to potential lapses in surveillance and physical security measures at the institution. Following the incident, Director General (Prisons) Alok Mittal took decisive action by ordering the immediate suspension of seven jail staff members pending a thorough inquiry into the security failure.
Security Review and Official Response
Senior officials from the prison administration conducted an urgent inspection of the Rewari jail premises in the aftermath of the escape. The review focused on assessing existing security arrangements and identifying vulnerabilities that allowed the breach to occur. Authorities emphasized that the rapid recapture of the inmates demonstrated effective coordination between prison staff and local law enforcement agencies, but acknowledged the need for enhanced preventive measures to avoid future incidents.
The incident has sparked discussions about the effectiveness of security systems in even the most modern prison facilities, particularly regarding the monitoring of construction materials and perimeter defenses. Officials have assured that additional security protocols will be implemented following the comprehensive review to strengthen the jail's defenses against similar escape attempts.
