Gurdaspur Firing Case: Proclaimed Offender Arrested in Khanna, Extortion Gang Links Uncovered
In a significant breakthrough, the Khanna police have arrested a proclaimed offender involved in a firing incident in Gurdaspur district, shedding light on an extortion gang with handlers based abroad. The suspect, identified as Gursahib Singh from Dostpur village in Gurdaspur, was apprehended following a meticulous investigation that connected him to multiple criminal activities.
Details of the Firing Incident and Arrest
The case dates back to November 18, 2025, when Gursahib Singh allegedly fired at Pehaljit Singh, the nephew of a former MLA, in Ghuman Kalan, Gurdaspur district. Pehaljit sustained injuries in the attack, which police believe was orchestrated to extort money for gang handlers operating from foreign countries. The Gurdaspur police had registered a case under Sections 109 and 3(5) of the BNS and declared Gursahib a proclaimed offender.
His arrest came after the Samrala police nabbed Gautam from Hariyon Kalan on March 13, 2026, with 10 grams of heroin, leading to a case under the NDPS Act. During interrogation, Gautam confessed to sourcing heroin from Gursahib, prompting a coordinated effort by the Khanna police. Under the supervision of SSP Darpan Ahluwalia, SP (I) Pawanjit, DSP (I) Mohit Kumar Singla, and in-charge of CIA, Khanna, Jashanpreet Singh, Gursahib was tracked down and arrested based on information extracted from Gautam.
Investigation Revelations and Criminal Network
Upon his arrest, Gursahib revealed that he, along with an accomplice, carried out the firing at Pehaljit Singh under the directives of extortion gang handlers residing overseas. This incident is part of a broader pattern, as Gursahib faces at least four other cases across various police stations, highlighting his involvement in organized crime.
The Khanna police have hailed this arrest as a major achievement, crediting the investigating team for preventing potential crimes in the local area. SSP Darpan Ahluwalia emphasized that treating Gautam's heroin recovery as a routine matter could have allowed Gursahib to continue his illicit activities, including drug smuggling and extortion. "Had our cops dealt the recovery of heroin from Gautam as a routine matter, Gursahib could have succeeded in committing more crimes related with drug smuggling and extortion," Ahluwalia stated.
Ongoing Efforts and Future Implications
Authorities are now intensifying efforts to extract more information regarding the links between Gautam and Gursahib, as well as to identify the extortion gang handlers abroad. This case underscores the interconnected nature of drug trafficking and violent crimes, with police vigilance playing a crucial role in disrupting criminal networks.
The arrest not only brings a key suspect to justice but also exposes the operations of gangs leveraging foreign bases to orchestrate crimes in Punjab. As investigations proceed, the focus remains on dismantling these networks and ensuring public safety in regions like Gurdaspur and Khanna.
