Bomb Threat Email Sparks Panic at Varanasi District Court, Security Heightened
A chilling bomb threat email sent to a judge at the Varanasi district court in the early hours of the morning plunged the legal complex into a state of high alert and widespread panic. The incident, which occurred around 1:30 AM, prompted immediate emergency protocols, including the rescheduling of court cases and the precautionary evacuation of the premises.
Judicial Alert and Immediate Response
Central Bar Association president Premprakash Singh Gautam detailed the sequence of events, revealing that the presiding judge, upon receiving the threatening communication, swiftly summoned bar leaders to his chamber to inform them of the grave situation. In view of the explicit threat, all scheduled hearings were promptly postponed to ensure public safety. The court complex was systematically cleared as a critical precautionary measure.
The Uttar Pradesh Police, in close coordination with central intelligence agencies, has launched a comprehensive investigation to trace the origin of the email and ascertain whether this threat is part of a larger, coordinated effort to instigate fear and disrupt judicial proceedings.
Extensive Security Sweeps and Searches
Taking prompt and decisive action, law enforcement authorities mobilized immediately. A specialized team, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Pramod Kumar and Cantt police station inspector Shivakant Mishra, spearheaded a meticulous search operation in collaboration with the bomb disposal squad. Advocates and court staff also participated proactively, inspecting their respective chambers for any suspicious items or packages.
The bomb squad conducted a thorough sweep of the entire district court premises, which was bolstered by a significant and visible police presence. Despite the intensive search, no suspicious devices or materials were located on the court grounds. The security operation extended beyond the court complex to include the nearby Cantt railway station, where personnel conducted checks at ticket counters, entry gates, and platforms to ensure public safety across key infrastructure points.

This alarming incident in Varanasi is not isolated. Officials confirmed that four district court complexes across Uttar Pradesh—specifically in Lucknow, Mirzapur, Varanasi, and Ayodhya—received similar bomb threat emails, triggering panic and prompting large-scale security checks statewide. The threatening communications uniformly claimed that explosive devices had been strategically planted within the court premises, aiming to create maximum disruption and fear.
The coordinated nature of these threats has raised serious concerns among state and central security agencies, who are now working in tandem to investigate potential links and motives behind these acts.
