Andhra Pradesh Police Intensifies Safety Measures Through 'Operation Chinnari Thalli'
In a significant move to bolster security for vulnerable groups, the Nellore district police wing has pledged to transform the district into a secure haven for women and children. This commitment was formally announced during the "Operation Chinnari Thalli" awareness meet, held at the Swarna Vedika Mandapam in Nellore on Saturday. The initiative marks a proactive step in addressing safety concerns through community engagement and technological integration.
State-Level Initiatives Highlighted by IG B Raja Kumari
Andhra Pradesh women and child safety wing Inspector General B Raja Kumari, serving as the chief guest, detailed the comprehensive efforts undertaken by the state police. She emphasized that the police department has been implementing a series of innovative programs designed to educate, empower, and ensure the safety of women and children across Andhra Pradesh.
"The Shakti app, launched by the police department, provides 112 distinct services to those in need, offering a crucial lifeline in emergencies," IG Raja Kumari stated. She further explained that the state police have accelerated investigations into Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) cases, adhering strictly to a guideline that mandates filing chargesheets within 60 days of crime reporting.
This rigorous approach has led to 546 accused in POCSO cases being proven guilty, demonstrating the effectiveness of timely legal action.
District-Specific Strategies Outlined by Nellore SP Dr Ajitha Vejendla
Nellore Superintendent of Police Dr Ajitha Vejendla elaborated on the district police wing's targeted initiatives aimed at strengthening systems to enhance women and child safety. She revealed that the district has identified 118 hot spots, with seven dedicated Shakti teams deployed for continuous surveillance to prevent crimes before they occur.
"We have established 5,572 Shakti warrior groups to continuously sensitize and empower girls and women, fostering a culture of awareness and resilience," Dr Vejendla explained. Additionally, self-defense training camps have been organized in approximately 3,348 educational institutions across the district, equipping students with practical skills for personal safety.
To further monitor potential threats, the district police wing has initiated measures to maintain sexual offender sheets (SoS), keeping a close watch on repeat offenders involved in crimes against women and children. This systematic tracking aims to deter recidivism and enhance community trust in law enforcement.
