Punjab's Mukhya Mantri Sehat Yojna Set to Begin on January 22
Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh made a significant announcement on Tuesday. He confirmed that the Mukhya Mantri Sehat Yojna will officially start from January 22. The minister shared this news during a meeting in Barnala.
Comprehensive Health Coverage for Families
Under this chief minister health scheme, every family in Punjab will receive cashless treatment facilities. The coverage amounts to Rs 10 lakh annually. This benefit applies to a wide network of healthcare providers.
Government hospitals and medical colleges are part of the scheme. Additionally, around 650 private hospitals have joined the initiative. Families can access treatment at these enlisted facilities without upfront payments.
Barnala District Prepares for Implementation
Dr Balbir Singh detailed the plan for Barnala district. Camps will be set up at 247 locations according to a fixed schedule. These camps will cover all 162 villages and 85 wards in the district.
Every family will receive a registration slip during these camps. This slip will facilitate their enrollment in the health scheme. The minister emphasized the importance of reaching every household.
Addressing Healthcare Staff Shortages
Responding to media queries, Dr Balbir Singh addressed staffing concerns. He stated that continuous recruitment efforts are underway to tackle doctor shortages. The government has already recruited 1,400 general duty medical officers.
Another 170 doctors will join the healthcare system soon. Recruitment of specialists is also in progress. Staff nurses are being hired to strengthen medical teams across the state.
Parallel Focus on Drug Eradication
The minister connected the health scheme discussion with Punjab's anti-drug campaign. He mentioned that padayatras have commenced in villages under 'Yudh Nasheyan Virudh 2.0'. This initiative represents the state government's intensified war against drugs.
Authorities are placing emphasis on rehabilitating drug addicts. Skill development programs aim to bring affected individuals back into the mainstream. The health and anti-drug efforts complement each other in building a healthier Punjab.

The meeting in Barnala saw participation from several senior officials. Barnala DC T Benith attended along with SSP Mohammad Sarfraz Alam. Civil Surgeon Dr Haripal Singh was present to discuss healthcare implementation.
Chairman of the district planning board Parminder Singh Bhangu also joined the discussions. These officials will play crucial roles in executing the health scheme and anti-drug campaigns at the district level.
