VinFast Targets India, Southeast Asia for Electric Scooter Expansion with Battery-Swap Tech
VinFast Electric Scooter Expansion Targets India, Southeast Asia

Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast has unveiled an aggressive global expansion strategy specifically targeting its electric scooter business, with a clear focus on key Asian markets. The company has identified the Philippines, Indonesia, India, Thailand, and Malaysia as its initial priority markets for this ambitious rollout.

Strategic Market Entry with Localized Products

The expansion into these regions is driven by several compelling factors that VinFast believes offer strong growth potential. These include rapidly rising urban mobility demands, favorable demographic trends with young populations, and an accelerating shift toward cleaner, more sustainable transportation alternatives across Asia.

As part of this strategic move, VinFast plans to introduce a comprehensive range of battery-swapping electric scooters designed specifically for local conditions. The initial lineup will feature models such as the Flazz, Evo, Feliz II, and Viper, with additional products expected to follow in subsequent phases. Each model has been carefully developed with meticulous attention to local riding conditions, usage patterns, and distinct customer preferences to ensure optimal suitability for each target market.

Building Infrastructure and Retail Presence

To support sustainable long-term growth, VinFast aims to establish several hundred retail outlets across these priority markets by 2027. The company's go-to-market strategy emphasizes flexibility and cost-efficiency, combining robust dealership networks with comprehensive service infrastructure, tailored financing solutions, and integrated energy support systems.

A crucial component of this strategy involves strategic partnerships with V-Green to develop extensive charging and battery-swapping infrastructure. This ecosystem approach is designed to address range anxiety and convenience concerns that often hinder electric vehicle adoption.

Building on Domestic Success

VinFast's international push builds upon its remarkable domestic performance in Vietnam. In 2025 alone, the company delivered an impressive 406,453 electric scooters, securing the top position in Vietnam's competitive scooter segment. With a diverse portfolio spanning over 10 models across multiple categories, supported by flexible charging and battery-swapping solutions, VinFast has successfully transformed electric scooters into a mainstream mobility choice within its home market.

Future Roadmap and Product Development

Looking ahead to 2026, VinFast has finalized a comprehensive roadmap featuring three distinct scooter lines: mainstream, premium, and sport categories. The company has already introduced seven new models within the premium and sport segments, significantly strengthening its position through enhanced design, superior performance, and clear product differentiation.

Backed by large-scale manufacturing capabilities, competitive pricing strategies, and a broader ecosystem that includes battery-swapping support from V-Green, VinFast plans to accelerate the adoption of electric mobility both regionally and globally.

Philippines as Launch Market

The Philippines has been selected as the first launch market under this global strategy. VinFast has established partnerships with five established dealers across Luzon and Mindanao: Maverick Racing Factory Inc., MotorCentral, New Nemar Development Corp., Supremebike Corporation, and ARC Trading. These collaborations aim to establish a nationwide sales and service network, with partners bringing valuable local expertise and demonstrating strong support for sustainable mobility initiatives.

Developing a Comprehensive Green Ecosystem

Over recent years, VinFast has steadily developed a comprehensive green mobility ecosystem across markets including the Philippines, Indonesia, and India. This has been achieved through collaborations with local partners and strategic alliances with companies like GSM, an all-electric taxi operator, and V-Green, which specializes in charging infrastructure development.

Beyond electric scooters, VinFast has significantly expanded its electric vehicle portfolio, offering models ranging from the compact VF 3 to the larger VF 9. This broader lineup aims to widen consumer choice and reinforce the company's leadership role in the global transition toward sustainable transportation solutions.

VinFast's Presence in the Indian Market

VinFast currently sells two electric cars in the competitive Indian automotive market: the VF6 and VF7 models. The VF6 is offered in three distinct variants: Earth priced at Rs 16.49 lakh, Wind priced at Rs 17.79 lakh, and Wind Infinity priced at Rs 18.29 lakh (all prices ex-showroom).

The VF7 presents an even more extensive range with five variants: Earth priced at Rs 20.89 lakh, Wind priced at Rs 23.49 lakh, Wind Infinity priced at Rs 23.99 lakh, Sky priced at Rs 24.99 lakh, and Sky Infinity priced at Rs 25.49 lakh (all prices ex-showroom). This diversified pricing strategy allows VinFast to cater to different segments of the Indian electric vehicle market as it prepares for its scooter expansion in the country.
