Maharashtra Minister Pankaja Munde Issues Stern Warning to Polluting Industries in Chandrapur

Maharashtra's Environment and Climate Change Minister, Pankaja Munde, delivered a firm warning to industries in Chandrapur on Thursday, stating unequivocally that violations of pollution norms will not be tolerated and that human lives cannot be put at risk. This declaration came during an extensive on-ground inspection of key industrial zones in the district, where she outlined a comprehensive phased roadmap to address the escalating pollution crisis.

Phased Roadmap to Tackle Pollution Crisis

During her tour, Minister Munde announced a detailed strategy comprising one-year, three-year, and long-term plans aimed at mitigating the district's worsening pollution levels. She visited major pollution hotspots, including the conveyor system at the Chandrapur Super Thermal Power Station in Durgapur and coal washeries in Belsani and Ghuggus. At these sites, she directed industries to immediately install and operationalize essential pollution-control measures such as foggers and dust-suppression systems.

"Chandrapur is an industrial hub, and we are not against development. But industries must function within environmental norms. No one has the right to endanger citizens' health," Munde asserted while interacting with residents affected by pollution. She warned that non-compliance with these directives would result in strict regulatory action against offending entities.

Response to Assembly Concerns and Official Accountability

The minister's visit follows concerns raised in the state assembly by MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar, who highlighted the severe scale of pollution and its detrimental impact on local communities. Reiterating her earlier assurances, Munde explained that she had come to Chandrapur to directly assess the situation and understand the grievances of the public firsthand.

In a move to ensure enforcement, Munde also put government officials on notice, warning of potential action against those who fail to diligently enforce pollution norms. This step underscores the administration's commitment to holding all stakeholders accountable in the fight against environmental degradation.

Development Initiatives in Wardha

Later in the day, Minister Munde performed the groundbreaking ceremony for various development works worth 25 crore rupees at Salod (Hirapur) in Wardha. Wardha Guardian Minister Pankaj Bhoyar was also present at the event, highlighting the collaborative efforts in regional development.

During her address, Munde emphasized the importance of rural entrepreneurship, urging villagers to build their own enterprises instead of migrating to cities for employment. "Our government does not just announce schemes but ensures that rural youth and women stand on their own feet. I will not sit quietly until they become job creators," she declared.

Support for Rural Entrepreneurs and Women

On schemes for youth, Munde detailed that the government provides a 50 percent subsidy for rural entrepreneurs. "Subsidies on solar units and interest concessions will also be provided to make youth financially strong," she added, appealing for greater participation in these initiatives.

Interacting with women, Munde praised the Ladki Bahin scheme, noting its role in empowering women. "By providing Rs 18,000 annually, the scheme is ensuring women's dignity. Concessions in ST travel are helping women become more independent," she remarked, underscoring the government's focus on gender inclusivity and economic self-reliance.

This comprehensive approach by Minister Munde reflects a dual focus on stringent environmental regulation and proactive rural development, aiming to balance industrial growth with public health and community welfare in Maharashtra.
