A family in Uttar Pradesh had a harrowing experience after relying on Google Maps for navigation, which led them into a drain. The incident occurred near the Preet Vihar area on Sunday when Sahil, a resident of Saddipura in Greater Noida's Dadri area, was traveling with his family to a relative's house in Kithore, Meerut district.
The Incident
According to reports, the family followed the directions provided by Google Maps, which directed them onto an unsafe path. The vehicle veered off the road and fell into a drain, leaving the family trapped. The incident took place around midday, and the family was stuck for approximately two hours before rescue teams arrived.
Rescue Operation
Local authorities and emergency services responded promptly after being alerted by nearby residents. The rescue operation involved pulling the vehicle out of the drain and ensuring the safety of all occupants. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the family was safely extracted from the vehicle.
This incident highlights the potential dangers of relying solely on GPS navigation systems, especially in areas with poorly marked roads or hazardous conditions. Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution and verify routes when using navigation apps.
The family was later taken to a nearby hospital for a medical check-up, and they were discharged after being declared healthy. The vehicle sustained minor damage but was recovered.
