The Government of India has officially refuted reports suggesting that a new design for Aadhaar cards is being introduced, labeling such claims as “unwanted confusion.” In a statement issued by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, authorities clarified that no modifications are planned for the existing Aadhaar card format.
Government Clarifies No Design Change
The clarification came after social media posts and online reports claimed that a redesigned Aadhaar card was being rolled out. The government emphasized that these claims are false and misleading, urging citizens not to fall for any misinformation.
“There are intermittent news reports and social media posts explaining how Aadhaar’s look may change by the end of this year to just a photo and a QR code, alone. This is NOT CORRECT. There is no plan for any such changes. Such news reports and social media posts are creating unwanted confusion in the minds of the people. People in general are advised to ignore such reports and social media posts, and refer to official communication from UIDAI through its official social media handles and press releases issued through PIB. Media is also advised not to encourage such information,” reads the statement issued by the Ministry of Electronics and IT.
Current Status of Aadhaar
The Aadhaar card, issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), remains one of the most widely used identity documents in the country. It is accepted across government and private services for verification, subsidies, and financial transactions. Officials reiterated that the existing design continues to be valid and functional, with no plans for replacement.
The government has also advised citizens to rely only on official communication from UIDAI and PIB for updates related to Aadhaar. Any information circulating outside these channels should be treated with caution.
