Uttar Pradesh Government Launches Major Crackdown on LPG Black Marketing

In a decisive move to safeguard the supply of essential petroleum products, the Uttar Pradesh government has significantly intensified its monitoring and enforcement operations across the state. The Food and Civil Supplies Department, working in close coordination with local district administrations, has launched a comprehensive statewide crackdown aimed at preventing shortages and curbing irregularities in the distribution of LPG cylinders.

Massive Enforcement Drive Yields Immediate Results

As part of this aggressive initiative, district-level enforcement teams sprang into action, conducting thorough inspections and surprise raids at a staggering 1,483 locations in a single day. This sweeping operation has led to substantial legal consequences, with authorities registering 24 First Information Reports (FIRs) specifically related to the black marketing of LPG. The cases include four FIRs filed against LPG distributors and twenty against other individuals involved in illicit activities.

The enforcement actions resulted in the on-the-spot arrest of six people, while prosecution proceedings have been formally initiated against nineteen others. This demonstrates the government's commitment to taking swift and stringent measures against those exploiting the supply chain.

Government Directives and Supply Assurance

The state government has issued clear instructions to all District Magistrates, mandating them to implement necessary steps to ensure the smooth and uninterrupted availability of petroleum products, including petrol, diesel, and LPG. To facilitate this, LPG refill deliveries are being meticulously managed through a network of 4,108 distributors operating statewide. Officials have confirmed that adequate stocks of domestic cylinders are currently available, alleviating concerns about potential shortages.

An official statement emphasized, "The Uttar Pradesh government is actively engaged in ensuring uninterrupted availability of petrol, diesel, and LPG to the public across the state. On the direct instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the government is continuously monitoring the supply system and conducting raids to check any shortage." The official further noted, "Uttar Pradesh is the first state in the country to initiate such swift and strict action against black marketing, setting a precedent for others to follow."

Strategic Measures and Control Room Activation

In a strategic move to support commercial establishments, the Government of India has permitted the allocation of up to 20% of the total LPG consumption for commercial cylinders. This ensures that gas supply to hotels, restaurants, and other commercial entities remains unaffected, balancing domestic and commercial needs effectively.

To enhance oversight and ensure rapid resolution of any supply-related issues, a 24-hour active control room has been established at the office of the Food Commissioner. This central hub facilitates the seamless exchange of information pertaining to the distribution of petroleum products. Additionally, departmental officers and staff have been stationed at a home control room, while similar control rooms have been set up in all districts across Uttar Pradesh, operating continuously to maintain vigilance.

These coordinated efforts underscore the government's proactive approach to maintaining supply chain integrity, protecting consumers from black marketing, and ensuring that essential energy resources reach every household without disruption. The crackdown reflects a broader commitment to governance and public welfare in the state.
