Telangana's Davos Success: Rs 2.19 Lakh Crore Investment and 68,150 Jobs Secured

In a significant boost to the state's economic landscape, Telangana's IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu revealed on Thursday that the government has successfully inked 44 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with various companies, attracting massive investments totaling Rs 2.19 lakh crore through its strategic participation in the World Economic Forum (WEF) meetings held in Davos.

Employment Generation and Investment Breakdown

Responding to queries during the assembly session, Minister Babu emphasized that the state's engagements at Davos in both 2024 and 2025 are projected to create an impressive 68,150 direct employment opportunities. "These investments are currently at different stages of implementation," he stated, highlighting the progressive nature of these agreements.

The minister provided a detailed breakdown of the investment figures, noting that during the 2025 edition of Davos, 18 MoUs were signed for investments worth Rs 40,232 crore. In comparison, the previous year's 2024 edition saw even more substantial commitments, with 26 MoUs amounting to Rs 1,78,950 crore.

Land Allotment and Revenue Generation

Demonstrating tangible progress, Babu announced that six companies which signed MoUs for investments totaling Rs 81,800 crore have already been allotted land by the government. This initial phase has already generated revenue of Rs 1,540 crore for the state. "We have identified land for three other companies with a proposed investment of around Rs 30,000 crore," he added, indicating ongoing preparations for further developments.

Due Diligence and Long-Term Vision

Minister Babu provided important context regarding the nature of MoUs, explaining that these agreements serve as foundational documents rather than final commitments. "After signing MoUs, we carry out due diligence of the detailed project report (DPR). There may be several practical issues, including firms being unable to secure loans or internal rifts within companies, that could affect final closure," he clarified.

The minister positioned Davos as a crucial platform for showcasing Telangana's achievements and learning about emerging technologies. "Some outcomes can be seen immediately, while others will be visible in the long term," he remarked, emphasizing the strategic, forward-looking approach of the state government.

Nizamabad IT Tower and AI Impact

Shifting focus to existing infrastructure, Babu discussed the Nizamabad IT Tower, which has a total seating capacity of 681. Currently, 11 companies operate from this facility, employing 276 workers. He noted a reduction from the previous 18 companies, suggesting this "could be the result of AI reshaping the IT industry."

To support these operations and retain local talent, the government is considering extending free rental support by an additional three years for companies operating from IT towers across various districts.

T-Fiber Initiative and Digital Infrastructure

The minister also highlighted the state's T-Fiber initiative, which represents a significant shift in internet service provision. Previously relying on private operators for interconnectivity, the government now provides internet services directly to Rythu Vedikas, 4,000 government offices, and even the secretariat through T-Fiber. "This sets an example for the entire country," Babu asserted, showcasing Telangana's leadership in digital infrastructure development.

This comprehensive announcement underscores Telangana's proactive approach to economic development through international engagement, strategic investment attraction, and support for both emerging and existing technological infrastructure.
