KPCC Secretary Sunil Laloor Criticizes Party Leaders Over Nattika Candidate Selection
KPCC secretary and UDF candidate for the Nattika assembly constituency, Sunil Laloor, has launched a veiled but pointed attack on KPCC general secretary Jose Valloor. The criticism centers on allegations that Valloor attempted to field C C Mukundan as the Congress nominee in the constituency.
Background of the Controversial Candidate
C C Mukundan, who served as a CPI MLA in the outgoing assembly, later contested the Nattika seat as a BJP candidate. This political shift has become a central point of contention within the Congress party. Laloor's criticism specifically targets those who allegedly facilitated Mukundan's potential candidacy under the Congress banner.
"People will give a befitting reply to those who had taken Mukundan to Delhi to make him the candidate, despite the fact that he was moving with a BJP mindset," Laloor declared in a Facebook post that has sparked significant internal debate.
The Delhi Visit and Internal Party Conflict
It had been widely reported at the time that Valloor and Mukundan traveled together to Delhi while discussions to finalize the Congress candidate list were underway. Although Laloor did not explicitly name Valloor in his social media post, the implication was clear to party insiders.
Predictably, supporters of Valloor have responded forcefully to Laloor's criticism. Youth Congress leader Shine Nattika and other allies have openly criticized Laloor and are demanding his expulsion from the party. They maintain that Valloor's actions were conducted "as per the directive of the party leaders."
Laloor's Firm Rebuttal and Mukundan's Political Journey
When contacted about these claims, Laloor firmly refuted them. "In fact, the AICC leaders even refused to meet them," Laloor stated, challenging the narrative presented by Valloor's supporters.
The controversy surrounding Mukundan stems from his complex political trajectory. As the sitting MLA for Nattika, Mukundan raised a banner of revolt against the CPI leadership when it became evident that the party would not grant him a ticket for the upcoming election.
Both Congress and BJP leaders actively courted Mukundan during this period. Although Mukundan initially attempted to join the Congress, the party leadership ultimately decided against fielding him as their candidate in Nattika. The BJP quickly seized this opportunity and officially made Mukundan their party candidate.
Broader Implications for Congress Party Unity
Laloor's criticism appears to be strategically targeted at party leaders who attempted to deny him the Nattika seat in favor of Mukundan. This internal conflict highlights the challenges facing the Congress party as it navigates candidate selection processes and maintains internal cohesion ahead of crucial elections.
The public nature of this disagreement, played out through social media and subsequent rebuttals, underscores the tensions within the party's Kerala unit. As various factions align behind different leaders, the resolution of this conflict may have significant implications for the Congress party's electoral prospects in the region.
