Punjab Opposition Leader Calls for CBI Investigation into Warehousing Corp GM's Tragic Death

In a significant development, Punjab Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa has formally written to the Chief Justice of India, urging suo motu cognisance and a court-monitored probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the death of Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, the General Manager of Punjab Warehousing Corporation. Bajwa has raised serious allegations of inaction by the Aam Aadmi Party government, despite prior complaints and concerns over harassment.

Allegations of Government Inaction and Demands for Impartial Justice

In his letter, Bajwa highlighted that despite clear allegations, prior complaints, and serious questions regarding pressure and harassment faced by Randhawa, there has been complete inaction at the highest levels of the state government. He questioned the impartiality of the investigation, noting that with the Chief Minister holding key portfolios and the probe under state control, justice could be compromised. "With the Chief Minister holding key portfolios and the investigation still under state control, how can justice be impartial? I have urged a court-monitored probe to ensure truth, accountability, and protection for the family," Bajwa stated emphatically.

Congress MPs Escalate Matter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah

Simultaneously, a delegation of four Congress MPs from Punjab—Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Gurjit Singh Aujla, Charanjit Singh Channi, and Dr Dharamvira Gandhi—met Union Home Minister Amit Shah to press for a thorough and impartial investigation. They jointly urged the Union Government to order a CBI probe into the circumstances surrounding the alleged suicide, citing widespread public concern and unanswered questions in Punjab.

The MPs emphasised that the case has raised several critical issues, necessitating transparency and accountability. They argued that only a CBI investigation would ensure a fair process, free from local influence or pressure. In response, Amit Shah assured the delegation that their concerns would be duly examined, though no immediate action was announced.

Public Outcry and Political Implications

The tragic death of Gagandeep Singh Randhawa has sparked significant public outcry, with many calling for justice and clarity. The Congress leaders reiterated their commitment to supporting the deceased's family and ensuring that the truth behind the incident is brought to light. This move underscores the escalating political tensions in Punjab, as opposition parties challenge the AAP government's handling of sensitive cases.

As the demand for a CBI probe gains momentum, the focus remains on whether central authorities will intervene to address the allegations of inaction and ensure an unbiased investigation. The outcome could have far-reaching implications for governance and accountability in the state.
