Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Announces New Exhibition Centers, Highlights Investor Summit Success

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann declared on Saturday that the Progressive Punjab Investors' Summit is receiving an overwhelming response from investors and industry leaders. He emphasized that this enthusiastic participation signals Punjab's rapid emergence as a preferred destination for investment and economic growth, marking a significant shift in the state's industrial landscape.

Addressing Infrastructure Gaps and Future Plans

Mann pointed out that while Punjab leads in the MSME sector, it currently lacks dedicated exhibition centers, often forcing events to be held in makeshift venues like marriage palaces or theatres. To remedy this, the government plans to establish an exhibition center with an auditorium in Ludhiana, along with similar facilities in New Chandigarh and Amritsar. "We need to have a proper place to interact with foreign delegates," he stated, underscoring the importance of professional infrastructure for fostering international business relations.

Focus on Value-Added Exports and Agricultural Integration

The Chief Minister outlined Punjab's strategic focus on transitioning from traditional exports to value-added exports, aiming to position the state as a strong export hub in north India. He highlighted the need to combine manufacturing strength with efficient logistic systems to achieve this goal. Mann also noted the innovative spirit of Punjabis, citing the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) success in winning four Lok Sabha seats in 2014 as an example of their openness to new ideas.

During a media interaction at the Summit, Mann reiterated, "Investor Summit is receiving tremendous response from investors, which is proof of Punjab's progress." He explained that the Punjab government is dedicated to building a development model that connects the state's robust agricultural base with industrial growth. This integration is designed to create greater opportunities for farmers and youth, ensuring sustainable economic advancement.

Harnessing Agricultural Potential and Criticizing Past Regimes

Highlighting the immense potential in the fruits and vegetables sector, Mann asserted, "Punjab has immense potential in the fruits and vegetables sector. If food processing succeeds here, it will substantially increase the profits of our farmers." He added that Punjab is steadily moving towards a new economic trajectory that links its agricultural productivity with global markets and modern industries, enhancing profitability and market access.

Taking a swipe at previous governments, Mann criticized them for creating an atmosphere of mistrust among investors. "Earlier govts used to demand a share from industry, but the AAP govt is providing a transparent and conducive environment for entrepreneurs," he said, emphasizing his administration's commitment to fostering a business-friendly climate that encourages investment and innovation.
