This widespread panic buying has led to chaotic scenes, long queues, and even incidents of property damage as frustrated residents demand immediate refills.

Queues have been reported from multiple localities throughout Prayagraj, with desperate customers lining up as early as possible to secure LPG refill cylinders. Many are acting out of frustration after not receiving deliveries on the second or third day of booking, a departure from the earlier, more reliable system. The situation has escalated to the point where police intervention was required at one agency to control an unruly crowd.
An agency owner in Mutthiganj explained, "We have been consistently assuring customers about home delivery, but they remain adamant about getting cylinders refilled at the agency itself. The situation is deteriorating rapidly; we once had to call the police to manage the crowd." In the old city, tensions boiled over recently when consumers damaged the windowpanes of a shop after heated arguments with the owners.
Distributors' Perspective and Safety Measures
Owners and distributors insist there is no actual LPG crisis but acknowledge the behavioral shift among consumers. The owner of an agency on Stanley Road noted, "There is no LPG shortage, but consumers are physically visiting gas agency offices with their challans and demanding immediate delivery of domestic cylinders." This surge in foot traffic has forced some distributors to implement corrective measures, including deputing private security guards to ensure safety at their premises.
Distributors are also urging the local administration to take effective steps to ease the situation and have called on oil marketing companies to accelerate delivery processes to address the mounting backlog. The festive season has exacerbated the crisis, with families struggling to cook meals due to empty cylinders.

An anxious resident, Abhinav, shared his plight: "I have been unable to get a cylinder for the past week. I only have a single cylinder, which is now empty. With the festive season upon us, how are we supposed to cook for our family? Many of us are frustrated because agency managements are not providing concrete information about delivery timelines." This sentiment is echoed by numerous others facing similar hardships, highlighting the urgent need for a resolution to restore normalcy in LPG supply and delivery services in Prayagraj.
