PMK Founder Dr Ramadoss Collapses After Campaign Speech in Salem
In a concerning incident during the ongoing election season, PMK founder Dr Ramadoss fainted on Sunday while campaigning for the Salem West constituency sitting MLA R Arul. The episode occurred in the Palapatty area of Salem, shortly after Dr Ramadoss had delivered a special speech urging voters to support Arul for a second consecutive term.
Immediate Medical Response and Hospitalization
According to eyewitness accounts, Dr Ramadoss had just left the stage when he suddenly collapsed. Two volunteers who were assisting him to his vehicle for another public meeting at Muthunaickenpatty near Omalur quickly responded. The veteran politician was rushed to a private multi-specialty hospital located near Five Road in Salem for emergency treatment.
Medical professionals at the hospital confirmed that low blood pressure was the primary cause of the fainting spell. A doctor involved in the treatment, who requested anonymity, stated, "Ramadoss was treated promptly and is currently in good health. He also spoke with us and partymen." This reassurance indicates that the situation was managed effectively without long-term complications.
Campaign Context and Political Implications
The incident highlights the intense physical demands of election campaigning in India. Dr Ramadoss, a prominent figure in Tamil Nadu politics, was actively campaigning for MLA R Arul in the Salem West constituency, specifically appealing to voters in the Palapatty area. His speech emphasized continuity, requesting the electorate to elect Arul for a second consecutive term, underscoring the strategic importance of this region in the broader political landscape.
Despite the scare, reports confirm that Dr Ramadoss is now stable and recovering. The episode serves as a reminder of the health challenges faced by political leaders during high-stakes election periods, with low blood pressure being a common issue exacerbated by fatigue and strenuous schedules.
