The fuel crisis gripping Nagpur persisted into its fourth consecutive day on Thursday, presenting a fluctuating and unpredictable scenario across the city. While a brief period of relief was observed in the morning hours, the situation deteriorated significantly by evening, reigniting concerns among residents and commuters.
Morning Respite Quickly Fades
In the early hours, motorists experienced a noticeable improvement, with several petrol pumps resuming operations and waiting times plummeting from nearly an hour earlier in the week to approximately 15 minutes at multiple locations. This temporary easing provided a much-needed break for citizens who had been enduring extensive queues and operational uncertainty.
Evening Escalation and Widespread Closures
However, this relief proved short-lived. Post-noon, fuel stocks at numerous outlets began depleting rapidly. By evening, reports confirmed that at least 25 petrol pumps across Nagpur had shut down after exhausting their available stock. These closures intensified pressure on the remaining operational pumps, leading to the reformation of long queues in various city sectors.

"More than 25 pumps were shut by afternoon," a source disclosed. "Although oil companies possess adequate fuel and are prepared to supply, numerous dealers are unable to lift stock due to payment-related complications."
The source elaborated that procurement previously operated on a credit basis, but this system has now ceased, creating a significant supply bottleneck. This halt in credit-based fuel procurement has emerged as the primary driver behind the pump closures, despite sufficient fuel availability at the company level. Dealers facing liquidity constraints have struggled to maintain inventory, resulting in these intermittent shutdowns.
