Mandya Deputy Commissioner Directs Sugar Factories to Pay Rs 100/Tonne Bonus to Farmers
In a decisive move to support sugarcane growers, Mandya Deputy Commissioner Kumara has issued a strict directive to sugar factory owners, ordering them to immediately disburse an additional payment of Rs 100 per tonne of sugarcane to farmers. This instruction was delivered during a crucial meeting held at the DC's office on Wednesday, which focused on reviewing sugarcane supply and the implementation of additional pricing for the upcoming 2025–26 crushing season.
Review Meeting Addresses Sugarcane Pricing and Farmer Support
The meeting convened to assess the progress of sugarcane supply and ensure that farmers receive fair compensation for their produce. Addressing representatives from various sugar factories, Deputy Commissioner Kumara emphasized that it had been previously decided to provide farmers with an extra Rs 100 per tonne over the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) for sugarcane supplied during the 2025–26 season. This additional payment is specifically designed to bolster the financial well-being of sugarcane growers and guarantee them equitable returns for their hard work and investment.
Breakdown of the Additional Payment Structure
Deputy Commissioner Kumara provided a detailed explanation of the payment arrangement. Under this scheme, the state government has already released its share of Rs 50 per tonne as financial assistance to support the farmers. The remaining Rs 50 per tonne must be contributed by the respective sugar factories themselves. This combined effort ensures that a total of Rs 100 per tonne is credited directly into the bank accounts of the farmers, streamlining the process and enhancing transparency.
Strict Warning Against Delays and Excuses
Kumara underscored that since the government has fulfilled its responsibility by promptly releasing its portion of the subsidy, sugar factories are now obligated to comply with the order without any hesitation. He issued a firm warning to factory managements, cautioning them against providing any excuses or attempting to postpone the payment. The directive mandates that the full additional amount must reach the farmers without any delay, ensuring timely financial support during the critical crushing season.
This proactive measure by the Mandya administration aims to strengthen the agricultural sector and uphold the rights of farmers, reinforcing the commitment to fair pricing and sustainable farming practices in the region.
