Mamata Banerjee Accelerates Launch of Banglar Yubo Sathi Scheme to April 1
In a significant policy announcement, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has advanced the launch date of the state government's newly introduced Banglar Yubo Sathi scheme from August 15 to April 1. This move aligns the commencement of the program with the start of the new financial year, aiming to provide timely financial assistance to unemployed youth across the state.
Statewide Enrolment Camps Scheduled for February
To facilitate the registration process, the Chief Minister has declared that the government will organize enrolment camps in every Assembly constituency from February 15 to February 26. These camps are designed to streamline applications for the scheme, which offers a monthly stipend of Rs 1,500 to individuals in the 21-40 age group who are currently unemployed.
During a recent address, Mamata Banerjee emphasized the inclusivity of the scheme, stating, "Those who have passed madhyamik will receive the financial support. Even beneficiaries of other government allowances remain eligible for the Yubo Sathi funds." This clarification ensures that the program reaches a broad demographic, targeting educational qualifications as a key criterion.
Comprehensive Registration for Multiple Schemes
The enrolment camps will not be limited to the Banglar Yubo Sathi scheme alone. Participants will also have the opportunity to register for two additional government initiatives:
- Rs 4,000 Annual Allowance for Landless Farmers: This support will be disbursed in two instalments of Rs 2,000 each, timed for the rabi and kharif agricultural seasons.
- Free Shallow Pump Power Connections: Aimed at enhancing irrigation facilities for farmers, this scheme complements the agricultural support measures.
Each camp will be staffed by representatives from key departments, including sports and youth affairs, agriculture, power, and irrigation, ensuring a coordinated approach to public service delivery.
Financial Allocation and Political Context
Previously, West Bengal Finance Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya had indicated that the Banglar Yubo Sathi scheme would be launched on August 15, contingent on the Trinamool Congress retaining power in the state. She had also announced a budgetary allocation of Rs 5,000 crore for the initiative in the upcoming fiscal plan, underscoring the government's commitment to addressing youth unemployment.
The scheme is structured to provide financial aid until beneficiaries secure employment or for a maximum duration of five years, offering a safety net during periods of job search and economic transition.
