Maharashtra Farmer Couple Found Dead in Apparent Suicide at Jalgaon Farm
In a tragic incident, a 38-year-old farmer and his 27-year-old wife were discovered dead, hanging from a tree in their own farm at Shivapur village in Jalgaon's Chalisgaon taluka. The bodies were found around 6 am on Saturday by local villagers, sending shockwaves through the rural community.
Police Investigation Underway
The Chalisgaon taluka police responded promptly after being alerted by villagers. Assistant inspector Nitin Patil stated that no suicide note was recovered from the scene or the couple's residence. However, based on initial circumstances, authorities suspect this to be a case of death by suicide. The exact cause is still being ascertained through a thorough investigation.
The deceased have been identified as Bhagwan Jadhav and his wife Ashabai. The location where they were found was merely a couple of hundred meters away from their family home, adding to the perplexity of the situation.
Family Background and Previous Incident
Patil revealed that the couple resided with their parents on the farm. Their two children, aged approximately 10 to 12 years, are currently in Mumbai staying with their uncle for educational purposes. The grief-stricken family has already conducted the last rites, and police have refrained from immediate questioning to respect their mourning period. However, the parents will be questioned soon as part of the ongoing probe.
Interestingly, the police have received information indicating that Ashabai had previously attempted to end her life about two years ago, though this detail requires verification. Following that incident, her husband Bhagwan sold off two acres of their farmland. The connection between these events and the current tragedy remains unclear and will be examined during the investigation.
Community Reaction and Lack of Clues
Since the family lived in relative isolation on their farm, villagers have been unable to provide any insights into what might have transpired within the household to lead to such an extreme step. The community is left grappling with unanswered questions and sorrow.
Assistant inspector Patil emphasized that the panchnama and other legal formalities have been completed. He noted that one of Bhagwan's brothers works at a bank in Mumbai, while another is employed with a security agency, highlighting the family's connections beyond the village.
The police are committed to uncovering the full story behind this heartbreaking incident, with further investigation expected to shed light on the motivations and circumstances that led to the couple's demise.
