Four Dead in Muzaffarpur Car-Truck Collision

Patna: Four people were killed on Sunday when their car rammed into a parked truck at Ratanpur village under the Motipur police station area in Muzaffarpur district. All four occupants died on the spot, while a motorcyclist was injured and admitted to a hospital.

Victims Identified

The deceased were identified as Krishna Kumar, 35, Sonu Kumar, 25, Mantosh Kumar, 20, and Gunjan Kumar, 25. According to police, the car first struck a motorcycle before crashing into a container truck stationed on the roadside.

Police Statement

Muzaffarpur rural superintendent of police Rajesh Singh Prabhakar said, “The car was coming from the Motihari side. It first hit a bike and was speeding away when the driver lost control and crashed into a container truck parked on the roadside. The collision was so severe that the car was completely mangled. The bike rider was injured and rushed to hospital.”

A crowd gathered after the crash and blocked the road. Police reached the spot on information, carried out rescue work, and later pacified the protesters. The bodies were sent to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH), Muzaffarpur, for postmortem.

Family Account

Family members said the group had gone to Baruraj, where Mantosh’s house is under construction, to lay the foundation and were returning when the accident occurred. Gunjan’s brother Gaurav Kumar said all four were close friends and that Gunjan and Mantosh jointly owned the car, which they used for rental purposes.

Overspeeding Suspected

Prabhakar said, “Prima facie, overspeeding is the reason behind the accident. The container truck driver and helper fled from the spot after the accident.”

Government Response

Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary termed the incident “very tragic” and announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh each for the next of kin of the victims.
