Elephant Mascot 'Motu' Leads Voter Awareness Drive in Thiruvananthapuram
A voter awareness campaign led by 'Motu', the elephant mascot of the motor vehicles department, drew significant public attention in Thampanoor, Thiruvananthapuram, on Tuesday. The initiative was conducted under the Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme, aimed at educating the public on the importance of exercising their franchise.
Joint Effort by District Administration and MVD
The campaign was jointly organized by the district administration and the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) to promote electoral participation. Thiruvananthapuram assistant collector Sivasakthivel C inaugurated the programme, emphasizing the role of such initiatives in strengthening democracy.
Key officials in attendance included regional transport officer Jayesh Kumar, chief managing director of MVD and KSRTC Pramod Shankar, and assistant transport commissioner Tojo M Thomas. Their presence highlighted the collaborative effort to boost voter awareness through engaging methods like the mascot-led campaign.
Related Awareness Programme for Students
In a related initiative, an election awareness programme was conducted for students at Polytechnic College in Vattiyoorkavu, also under the leadership of SVEEP. Students were administered the voter's pledge, and various activities aimed at promoting electoral awareness were organized to instill a sense of civic duty from a young age.
College principal Unnikrishnan Nair and NCC officer Girish P Nair participated in the programme, underscoring the importance of involving educational institutions in voter education efforts. This dual approach, targeting both the general public and students, aims to foster a more informed and participatory electorate in the region.
