Andhra Govt Acts Against Engineer for Unauthorized Power Cut at Kanaka Durga Temple
Disciplinary action for unauthorized power cut at Vijayawada temple

The Andhra Pradesh government has taken strict disciplinary action against a power department official for ordering an unauthorized electricity disconnection at the revered Kanaka Durga Temple in Vijayawada. The move came after the hilltop temple's power supply was temporarily suspended without following due procedure or seeking approval from senior authorities.

Unauthorized Disconnection Draws Government Ire

According to officials, the electricity supply to the prominent temple was disconnected for several hours on December 27, 2025. The action was reportedly taken over pending electricity dues. However, the decision to cut power was made unilaterally by Deputy Executive Engineer Ramakrishna, without informing or obtaining clearance from his superiors.

The state government expressed strong displeasure over the incident. Officials emphasized that given the temple's immense religious significance and the large volume of daily devotees, any action affecting essential services requires prior consultation with higher authorities. Energy Minister Gottipati Ravikumar attributed the incident to a "miscommunication" within the department.

Immediate Action and Internal Inquiry

Acting on the government's directions, the power department swiftly initiated disciplinary proceedings. The Superintendent Engineer ordered the surrender of Ramakrishna to the headquarters of the Central Power Distribution Company of Andhra Pradesh Limited (CPDCL) for further administrative action.

An internal inquiry has also been launched to investigate the full circumstances that led to the power cut and to fix responsibility. Department sources clarified that while there are standard protocols to recover pending dues, special consideration is mandatory for vital institutions like major temples.

Power Restored, Measures to Prevent Recurrence

Officials confirmed that the power supply to the Kanaka Durga Temple was restored shortly after the issue came to light. This quick reversal ensured that temple rituals and services for devotees were not disrupted for an extended period.

The authorities have assured that steps are now being implemented to prevent similar incidents in the future. The government's firm response underscores its stance on ensuring uninterrupted services at places of worship and adhering to proper administrative channels.
