Congress Launches Major Grassroots Drive in Rajasthan Ahead of Local Elections

In a strategic move ahead of the upcoming urban local body and panchayat elections, the Congress party has initiated a comprehensive statewide organizational drive aimed at strengthening its grassroots network across Rajasthan. This ambitious effort marks a significant shift in the party's approach, as it seeks to establish a more robust presence at the village and ward levels.

Expanding Presence with Over 5.35 Lakh Appointments

The drive is designed to appoint a total of over 5.35 lakh office-bearers throughout the state by April 19. Of this substantial number, more than 3.23 lakh office-bearers will be positioned in rural areas, while over 2.11 lakh will be assigned to urban wards. This initiative underscores the party's commitment to deepening its influence and connectivity with local communities.

First-Time Formation of Gram Panchayat Committees

Notably, this is the first time the Congress party is forming structured executive committees at the gram panchayat level. Following a recent reorganisation, Rajasthan now has 14,726 gram panchayats, an increase from the earlier 11,310 due to the addition of 3,416 new units. The party plans to establish 21-member executive committees in each gram panchayat, which will include a president, resulting in the appointment of 3,23,972 office-bearers in rural regions.

Urban Ward Committees to Enhance Local Governance

In urban areas, where there are 10,245 wards, the Congress will similarly set up 21-member ward executive committees, also featuring ward presidents. This urban component accounts for 2,11,590 office-bearers, aiming to bolster the party's engagement in municipal governance and address urban-specific issues effectively.

Urgent Timeline and Leadership Commitment

The party has issued a circular to all district presidents, assigning them the critical task of completing these appointments within a tight one-month timeframe. State Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra emphasized the urgency of this exercise, stating, "We will complete this in a month." He highlighted that this initiative represents a pioneering step for the party in creating organized committees at the gram panchayat level, reflecting a proactive strategy to prepare for the electoral challenges ahead.

This grassroots drive is expected to significantly enhance the Congress party's organizational capacity, enabling better mobilization and representation as local elections approach. By focusing on both rural and urban areas, the party aims to build a more inclusive and responsive network that can address diverse community needs and strengthen its political foothold in Rajasthan.
