Chhattisgarh Congress Completes Leadership Selection, Criticizes Gas Cylinder Crisis
In a significant organizational update, Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CPCC) president Deepak Baij declared on Thursday that the party has finalized the selection of district, block, and mandal presidents across the state. Addressing a press conference at the party's state headquarters, Rajiv Bhawan in Raipur, Baij emphasized that this move is part of a broader nationwide effort to strengthen the party's structure and grassroots presence.
Organizational Restructuring and Timeline
Baij detailed that the formation of district and block executive committees is currently underway and is expected to be fully completed by March 31. This restructuring aims to enhance the party's operational efficiency and outreach at various administrative levels. Additionally, he revealed that the party has initiated a comprehensive revision of booth, ward, and village committees, which are crucial for mobilizing support and addressing local issues effectively.
Extensive Tour to Oversee Progress
To ensure the smooth implementation of these organizational changes, the state unit chief recently conducted an extensive tour covering 10 districts, including Bastar, Dantewada, and Korba (Rural). This tour spanned 20 assembly constituencies, allowing Baij to personally oversee the selection and formation processes, gather feedback from local leaders, and assess the party's preparedness for upcoming political challenges.
Criticism of Domestic Gas Cylinder Shortage
During the press conference, Baij also shifted focus to a pressing public issue, highlighting a severe shortage of domestic gas cylinders in Chhattisgarh. He alleged that this scarcity has led to rampant black-marketing, with cylinders being sold illegally for as high as Rs 3,000 each, far above the official rates. Baij criticized the state's official booking systems, claiming they remain non-functional, thereby exacerbating the crisis and burdening ordinary citizens who rely on these cylinders for daily cooking needs.
