Bihar Chief Minister Inaugurates Self-Enumeration Phase for Census 2027

In a significant administrative move, newly appointed Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary officially launched the self-enumeration phase of Census 2027 on Friday at the Chief Minister's secretariat in Patna. The event marks a pivotal step in the national population counting exercise, with Choudhary emphasizing its critical importance for future governance and development.

CM Calls for Widespread Public Participation

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Choudhary made a passionate appeal to all residents of Bihar to actively engage in the census process. "Census 2027 will lay a strong foundation for the bright future of Bihar and the country," he declared, highlighting the long-term implications of the exercise.

In an official statement released during the ceremony, Choudhary elaborated on the census's fundamental role in governance. "The census is the cornerstone of good governance, which will play a crucial role in shaping development plans, policies and welfare programmes in the coming years," he stated, underscoring how accurate demographic data directly influences resource allocation and strategic planning.

Technological Milestone in Census History

The Chief Minister specifically noted the technological advancements incorporated into Census 2027, describing it as "a historically significant initiative from a technological standpoint." For the first time in India's census history, the process will feature fully digital data collection alongside the newly introduced self-enumeration facility.

The self-enumeration window will be available to citizens from April 17 to May 1, 2027, allowing individuals to register their household information through digital platforms. Following this initial phase, the first stage of Census 2027 in Bihar will involve House Listing Operations (HLO), scheduled to be conducted from May 2 to May 31, 2027.

Appeal for Accurate and Inclusive Data Collection

Choudhary urged all citizens of Bihar to participate wholeheartedly in what he termed "this campaign of national importance." He called upon people to contribute toward completing an accurate, inclusive, and credible census through either self-enumeration or by extending full cooperation to government enumerators who will visit households.

The launch event was attended by several senior officials, including CM's principal secretary Deepak Kumar and secretaries to the CM Anupam Kumar and Kumar Ravi, demonstrating the administrative priority given to the census initiative.

Former CM Nitish Kumar Leads by Example

In a symbolic gesture of support, former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar registered himself through the self-enumeration process shortly after its launch. Kumar announced his participation on social media platform X, writing: "Under Census 2027, self-enumeration has started today. I have got myself registered." This public endorsement from a senior political figure is expected to encourage broader public participation.

CM's Temple Visit Following Official Launch

Later in the afternoon, Chief Minister Choudhary visited the historic Baba Harihar Nath Temple located in Sonepur with his family members to offer prayers. He prayed specifically for the happiness, peace, and prosperity of Bihar state during the temple visit.

Accompanying the Chief Minister were his wife Mamta Chaudhary, along with their children and other family members, who participated in the religious observance. This combination of official administrative launch and personal spiritual observance reflects the cultural context of governance in the region.

The launch of Census 2027's self-enumeration phase represents a modernization of India's demographic data collection process, with Bihar taking early initiative under its new leadership. The success of this digital-first approach will depend heavily on public awareness and participation across the state's diverse population centers.
