Elderly Pakistani-Origin Couple Found Dead in Jaisalmer Home Under Suspicious Circumstances
A wave of shock and sensation has gripped the Mohangarh police station area of Jaisalmer after the bodies of an elderly displaced couple of Pakistani origin were discovered in their residence on Saturday morning. The couple, identified as Lakharam Bhil, aged 80, and his wife Reshma Bhil, aged 75, were found deceased under highly suspicious circumstances while they were presumably asleep.
Initial Findings Point to Foul Play and Possible Robbery
Preliminary investigations by the police indicate that both individuals appear to have been strangled to death, raising immediate alarms about foul play. Adding to the suspicion, the silver anklets worn by the elderly woman, Reshma Bhil, were found to be missing from the scene. This critical detail has led authorities to strongly suspect that the couple was murdered during an attempted robbery or theft.
The distressing discovery was made by Lakharam's nephew, Chandaram, who is the son of his sister. Chandaram arrived at the couple's home for a visit on Saturday morning and was met with the horrifying sight of the bodies. He promptly alerted local villagers, who then informed the police. According to the nephew's account, Lakharam's body was lying in the courtyard, while Reshma's body was found inside a room of the house.
Police Response and Ongoing Investigation
Upon receiving the information, Mohangarh Station House Officer Baburam Delu swiftly arrived at the location with a dedicated police team to secure the scene and initiate an investigation. The bodies were carefully shifted to the mortuary for a postmortem examination, after which they were handed over to grieving relatives for final rites.
Superintendent of Police Abhishek Shivhare provided crucial details about the case, confirming that both bodies were discovered inside the house. During the initial examination, no visible injury marks were observed on the bodies, which has prompted a more thorough medical investigation. A specialized medical board has been constituted to conduct the postmortem, and the exact cause of death will be definitively confirmed only after the official report is received and analyzed.
Background of the Deceased Couple
The deceased couple, belonging to the Bhil community, had migrated to India approximately two decades ago from the Rahim Yar Khan district in Pakistan. They had no children and lived alone in a Bhil settlement located behind Navodaya Vidyalaya in Mohangarh. In a significant development, they had recently been granted Indian citizenship, marking a new chapter in their lives that has now ended tragically.
SHO Baburam Delu emphasized that family members explicitly informed the police about the missing silver anklets, which has become a central focus of the investigation. Additionally, some unidentified footprints were observed around the house, further complicating the case and suggesting possible intruder activity.
Comprehensive Probe Underway
The police are investigating the case from all possible angles, leaving no stone unturned in their quest for justice. An FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) team has been summoned to the scene to collect and analyze forensic evidence that could provide critical clues. The investigation aims to determine whether this was a targeted crime, a random robbery gone wrong, or involved other motives.
As the community reels from this tragic incident, authorities are working diligently to piece together the events leading to the couple's untimely deaths. The case highlights concerns about safety and security for elderly residents living alone, especially in remote settlements.
